Tangkaira was the wife of Ityamaiitpina (aka ‘King Rodney’) a respected Kaurna Elder, and one of three with whom the colonists regularly negotiated. In 2003 Hurtle Square was renamed Hurtle Square/Tangkaira to honour this Kaurna woman.
Rich in heritage, Tangkaira is a Café Restaurant located on the stunning picturesque Hurtle Square. It’s the ultimate escape – the perfect spot to enjoy honest food, sensational coffee, and an unfussy unique wine list; in a chilled-out setting without pretence.
P.S. Why ‘Tangkaira’ restaurant? Well, it’s ‘Where Native Meets New’, reflecting a fresh take on old roots, our strong evolving eco attitudes, and our love for the square. Our vision is to unify our native ingredients with new cultures.
